French Global Environment Facility

The overall objective of the French Global Environment Facility (for which the AFD acts as the secretariat), is to encourage developing and transitional countries to adopt and implement strategies, programmes; sustainable and responsible development projects that are compatible with the long term equilibrium of our planet. The specific objective of the Facility is to subsidise development projects that have a significant and long lasting impact on one or other of the principal global environmental domains (biodiversity, global warming, international waters, ozone layer, soil degradation including desertification and deforestation, persistent organic pollutants).

Currently, two projects in China are being supported by the FGEF:

Program to improve energy efficiency and sustainable development in the construction sector

FGEF grant: 6 M€

 

Carrying out pilot projects on energy saving buildings (new buildings, retrofitting, rural housing), promoting the application and evolution of norms and guidelines as well as encouraging technology transfers.

CDM capacity building and project development support in 4 south-western provinces
Total cost: 1.5 M€ - FGEF grant: 0.75 M€
 
Provide capacity building at institutional and provincial level in order to promote energy efficiency and renewable energy projects within the scope of the CDM; assembly of a portfolio of 5 CDM projects in each province, identified at a preliminary level (PIN); followed by 1 or 2 representative projects per province, developed (drafting of the PDD) and carried until their registration with the UN CDM Executive Board.
